We at filmkoop wien are thrilled: with Character_, Austria now has its first dedicated hub for artist-driven analog film — right here in Vienna, at Volkertplatz in the 2nd district.
Anyone who shoots on Super 8, 16mm or 35mm knows the struggle: for professional-quality film scanning and digitization, you almost always had to send your reels abroad. Not anymore. Character_ brings high-end analog film scanning back to Vienna.

What makes us especially happy: the three people behind Character_ — Stefanie Weberhofer, Manuel Götz and Markus Maicher — are long-time members of filmkoop wien. People who have lived and breathed analog film for years, with the technical expertise that good analog film digitization demands.
The roles are clearly divided: filmkoop wien remains the membership-based association for working independently in the darkroom and on the equipment — while Character_ is the outward-facing service, with scanning, shop and rental. The two complement each other.
Analog film is alive
