with Cosma Grosser and Markus Maicher
16mm film has long been the most popular format among independent filmmakers. This workshop is for anyone who wants to work with 16mm film for the first time — perhaps with some prior experience in Super 8 — or for those who wish to refresh their 16mm practice.
We’ll take a detailed look at the 16mm Bolex camera and its functions before heading out in small groups to shoot on black-and-white print stock. On the second day, we’ll hand-process the 16mm film in a Lomo tank — each participant will load and develop their own reel. Finally, we’ll learn how to project the finished films using a 16mm projector.
Feel free to bring your own camera if available; otherwise, Bolex cameras will be provided.
Previous experience with analog film is welcome but not required.
